Hollywood Paws cats wrap filming a TV pilot in a cat sized apartment!

Hollywood Paws just finished filming of a new television pilot called Mr. Dingleberry this past Monday! 3 Hollywood Paws cats were used in the filming of the pilot and all 3 cat owners and Hollywood Paws students helped to train their cats on the set. The pilot uses cats as the main characters and the set is entirely cat sized (check out the photos below if you don’t believe us…)

Hollywood Paws cat Ichi is the main cat, Mr. Dingleberry in the pilot and his co-stars are Hollywood Paws cats Missy and Cocoa. All 3 cats are graduates of the Hollywood Paws Feline Animal Acting program where they have mastered behaviors such as “mark”, down, sit, paw, wave, and target training. Keep your eyes peeled for this new show that should be premiering on a television near you very soon!

Hollywood Paws Dog Kasey Bags His First Job!

5 Hollywood Paws dogs audition for the lead in an upcoming film!

Hollywood Paws dogs Brutus, Jammer, Patron, Machella Bella, and Casey all auditioned today for the lead dog role in an independent film that starts filming next month. The type of dog needed was an agressive looking dog such as a german shepherd or pit bull and they needed to be able to perform a varity of advanced behaviors. In the casting the dogs needed to play dead while on their side, speak, and be able to have a rubber band around their nose to simulate a growl and snarl.

Brutus and Jammer are 2 German Shepherds that are owned by the same owner. Both are graduates of the Hollywood Paws levels I, II, and III programs and have also been doubles for each other as the leads in a pilot television series called "Passenger."

Patron is a blue nose pit bull who joined Hollywood Paws when he was just a puppy. He is a Hollywood Paws levels I, II, and III graduate and has been submitted to multiple jobs prior to this casting.

Michaella Bella  was one of the first to complete the Hollywood Paws levels I, II, and III programs and has been with Hollywood Paws for over 3 years! He was also the main dog who starred in his own segment on Animal Planet's "Weird, True, and Freaky" television show.

Casey is the newest addition to Hollywood Paws and started Hollywood Paws level I program only 1 month ago! Hollywood Paws trainers had to have casey come in for extra training sessions to make sure he was prepared for this casting... and he did a great job!

Hollywood Paws wants to see YOUR French Bulldog asap! A very well know car insurance company is in need of this breed of dog for a commercial filming next week and contacted Hollywood Paws to get the job done. What does your dog have to be able to do?

Dog Behaviors Needed:

1. Put their paws on the steering wheel of a car while holding themselves in a standing position
2. Speak on cue... without any sound coming out!
3. Look left
4. Look Right
5. Show expression on their face

All these behaviors are taught starting in Hollywood Paws Level I: Foundation of Animal Acting program, but some of the more advanced behaviors such as linking all the above behaviors together is taught in our Level III: Advanced Animal Acting program. Hollywood Paws Pawsitive Training Tip

Production Behaviors: Some of the more difficult included a 2 trainer watch me at a distance of 30 feet, leg lift, multiple speaks, and even undo a knot!

Hollywood Paws Training Tip: There is ALWAYS more to do!

You can always do more with a behavior! Once you have the initial behavior, you can always raise the bar on that behavior. The more you train for distance and distractions, the more prepared your pet will be for any production work that comes his or her way!

If you dog is used to you training a distance of the minimum 15 feet required on-set, then try for 25 feet or even 40 feet! Hollywood Paws trains for distance starting in our Foundation of Animal Acting program and by the end of this program dogs should be able to work most basic behaviors are the minimum distance of 15 feet. Bubba (pictured above with Hollywood Paws Studio Trainer Joel) had to work at a distance of 30 feet while working on the movie 'Chihuahua 2'!

Just because your dog can perform the behavior every time at home, does not mean that your dog will be able to perform that same behavior during a busy Saturday at the Santa Monica Pier or on the Venice Beach Boardwalk.

Its almost Spring, and with such great weather outside you can turn a training session into a fun day out with your family, friends, and of course... your pet!

Hollywood Paws Lands Motel6 Commercial!

Hollywood Paws is on-set today with the Pasadena Arts College filming a commercial spec for the popular Motel6 hotels! The commercial is being filmed to show that Motel6 is a pet friendly travel spot that allows all animals from dogs and cats to pigs and iguanas! Hollywood Paws was on set with numerous exotic animals including a pig, iguana, goldfish, snails, and more!

Hollywood Paws Students also had a chance to train these animals on set with Hollywood Paws Studio Trainers Joel and Briana. In the commercial there was an actor pushing his pet pig in a stroller, an actress with an iguana in her purse, and another actor who carried around his pet goldfish in a fishtank attached to a harness on his chest!

Hollywood Paws dog Bella lands a Kmart Commercial!

We want to congratulate BELLA, Renzo Garcia's Golden Retriever who just booked a corporate commercial for Kmart! Th commercial will be running throughout Kmart stores and offices and will feature Bella as the Kmart dog. Bella will be filming on set for Kmart during next week and we know she will do a great job! Included in the behaviors required for this shoot are an off-leash stay, head down, head up, on your side, and lots of distraction work. This is not Bella's first time on set, she has also done an international infomercial for a "No Pull" Harness that was filmed in Los Angeles and aired in the United Kingdom. We will let everyone know how the shoot goes next week!

The New Year Gave Fred 'Peanut' Astaire A New Career!

Hollywood Paws is off to a jumping start in this new year with our Hollywood Paws graduate, Fred 'Peanut' Astaire starring in the movie 'Chihuahua.'  Peanut is one of Hollywood Paws' best Chihuahuas and after some hairy competition for the starring role, Peanut pawed out the rest to play Bella in the movie 'Chihuahua' which started filming today.

In the movie Peanut, who was born a he will now be filmed as a she! Not only will Peanut be fashioned in the latest doggie stylings from Ruff Ruff Couture, but he will also have to perform countless difficult behaviors including jumping into a moving hospital cart, darting in and out of children, and dialing 911 on a phone! If any dog can pull these behaviors, (while still looking chic in petticoat dresses) we have no doubt that Peanut is the dog for the job!

Wishing You a Doggone Wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Day is right around the corner and what a better day to thank your pup for being his or her furry little self then by including them in your dining festivities! Food motivation has never been a problem for our Hollywood Paws pups and we know they would love the chance to chomp down on their very own dog friendly thanksgiving dinner. Of course there are some canine friendly T-day choices like turkey and duck, but we do advise you to keep their paws off of the onions, garlic, pies, and alcohol.  If you think that your furry friend deserves something extra special this holiday season then try to bake some dog friendly treats like turkey loaf, apple doggy treats, and turkey balls! While we have not tried any of these treats personally we do hear that they are pretty tasty for both dogs and people alike... not that we are recomending you trade in the traditional turkey and apple pie for these for pup friendly menu items of course!

Hollywood Paws Dog, Hera Snowboards Over The Competition Leaving Them In The Cold

Hollywood Paws dogs have shined on the silver screen, and now Hollywood Paws bulldogs are taking over the world of snowboarding as well! When Natural Balance pet food posted a casting call for snowboarding bulldogs to share the soptlight on their Rose Bowl Parade float next year, Hollywood Paws students jumped to the head of the line with their tanented bulldogs by their sides. The casting call brought over 40 dogs to Pacoima, CA to try their chances on the slopes of Natural Balance's float - the world's longest Rose Parade float to date! 

Many Hollywood Paws bulldogs auditioned for the part and Hera, Hollywood Paws' 1-year old English Bulldog was photographed mid-slope for the front page of the Pasadena Star Newspaper! Of the dogs who auditioned, Natural Balance will choose 2 bulldogs to represent at the Rose Bowl Parade in the new year.

How To Get Your Dog In Commercials? Ask Hollywood Paws!

How do you get your dog into commercials, film, print ads, television, and more? Well, here at Hollywood Paws we are asked this question on a daily basis and have decided to take this timeless question to our blog in hopes to really chew out an answer for the 4-legged hollywood hopefuls!

Where Do Movies Get Their Animal Stars From?
Where do you think advertising agencies, production companies, television shows, and movie producers get their animals from? Well, there are about 40 animal companies which supply the majority of animals you see in ads, televisions, and movies. These wranglers own an inventory of anywhere from 30-100 dogs and cats, and these animals live to work.  Hollywood Paws is changing the ways animals are supplied to the Entertainment Industry by bringing privately owned dogs and cats from your loving home to the silver screen and more! Hollywood Paws actors go home to a good bed after a long day's work.

Is There Really Production Work Out There For My Pet? 
YES! There is a huge market for dogs and cats in the Entertainment Industry! Avdertising agencies conducted a survey of advertisiments that containined children and/or animals and found that these ads generated 100% more of a response from consumers. Animals appear in all types of ads that expand beyond the pet related businsses to industries such as Insurance (Geico), Communications (AT&T, Verizon), Food (Bush's Baked Beans, Pepsi), Automobile (Toyota, Volkswagon), Technology (Microsoft), Retail (Target), and Fast-food (Taco-Bell) just to name a few.

What Does Hollywood Paws Look For In A Dog or Cat?
Hollywood Paws looks for many different things when evaluating a potential animal actor. Not only does Hollywood Paws evaluate the dog's apperance, training level, and personality, but we also look for owners who passionate about their pets and who are not only willing to, but also enjoy spending time with their dogs. Of course, just like human actors an animal actors must be more then a pretty face!  People go to acting classes, police dogs need special training, guide dogs for the blind need certification classes, and studio dogs need training too! If your dogs are trained then that's great - Hollywood Paws will take your dog's current training into our decision process.

Do Dogs and Cats Attend Castings?
This depends, there are certain situations where casting calls are requried, but for the most part Hollywood Paws works directly with the production and advertising companies.  Once a production call is received, Hollywood Paws Trainers and Talent Directors will submit all dogs and/or cats which fit the description of what the particualr job requries. When the production's producters and casting agents make their decision, they notify Hollywood Paws and the dog is officially sign on to that commercial or film.

How Can I Get My Dog An Evaluation?
Hollywood Paws will never say 'No' to seeing a dog or cat, but unfortunately we are unable to sign on every dog that through our studio doors.  Your can call our representatives at 888-781-7827 in order to set an appointment or visit our website.  Remember to make sure your dog is in a carrier or on-leash when you come in for your evaluation and be sure to being a photo or two to leave with us. Production Companies Can't Keep Their Paws Off Of Hollywood Paws!

The drastic and rainy change in weather hasn't lowered Hollywood Paws' spirits and and as the rain continues to pour on LA, production companies continue raining on Hollywood Paws! Hollywood Paws has been chosen to be part of a news casting that focuses on pet related businesses, activities, and all around pet lovers and enthusiasts.  While there are many activities you can get your pets involved in, there is only one way to get your pets in the Entertainment Industry - Hollywood Paws pet agency and animal acting school of course.

The Hollywood Paws shoot is taking place tomorrow morning at our studios in Los Angeles Center Studios. Hollywood Paws Is Getting Wet n' Wild With Surf City Surf Dogs

Hollywood Paws is going to be catching waves in Huntington Beach this weekend with the pup's at Surf City Surf Dogs. If you have ever wanted to see a canine tame the blue monster then now is your chance! Hollywood Paws is going to be scoping out the competition and cheering on our Hollywood Paws favorites all for a good cause to benefit local canine rescue groups. Hollywood Paws is going to be there and 'hang 10,' or in this case 'hang 20,' and we want you to join us!

Hollywood Paws Wolf 'Kills' On-Set

Hollywood Paws' Wolfie, an actual wolf just wrapped the filming of his scenes in his silver screen debut! We mentioned previously that Wolfie was going to be licking up the limelight in an independent film feature and Hollywood Paws is proud to say the Wolfe did a wonderful job.
